Answers To Frequently Asked Questions
If you’re not sure what an amp is, why you need one or how you can install yours, read on to see the answers to some of the most questions our team gets asked on a regular basis.
What Does A Car Amplifier Do?
Amplifiers are often built into cheaper audio solutions, but when you’re using more professional solutions, such as some of the ones on offer on our website, you need an external amp to boost the sound from the car’s stereo to your speakers and audio gear. They connect your speaker or subwoofer to your car and facilitate the flow of energy to power your speakers and give you a phenomenal listening experience. Our amps are all powerful and reliable, meaning you’ll get many years of enjoyment from them.
What Kind Of Speakers Do Your Amps Work With?
Our amps are designed to work with our quality car speakers and subwoofers, meaning that you can use them to power your perfect car music system. They will make the solution work with your car’s stereo and give you the chance to enhance your sounds and turn every trip into an unforgettable experience.
Do Car Amps Work In Any Kind Of Car?
Car amps are simple pieces of technology that make a big impact on your car’s sound system. In general, they work with most types of car, but there are a few things to consider about your car’s audio setup before you buy yourself an amp. One is the type of channel that your amp uses. Most of
our amps, such as our Kicker
Audio CX 300W 4 Channel Class A/B Amplifier 43CXA3004, have 4 channels, meaning that you can power four speakers or subs with them. This means you can power the front two speakers, and two in the back, which is the average number most cars use. If you’re using more then you might need an amp with more channels, like our 5 channel Kicker Audio CX 600W 5 Channel Class A/B System Amplifier CXA6005.
What Power Amp Should I Get?
That depends entirely on the size of the speakers you’re using. We’d recommend that you use an amplifier that can deliver double the output of your speakers. So, if you choose our Terminator 6 x 9" (150 x 230 mm) 3-way Triaxial Speaker System, with a maximum power of 300W, then you’ll need an amp with 600w of power, such as our Kicker Audio CX 600W 5 Channel Class A/B System Amplifier CXA6005. If in doubt, contact us and we’ll be happy to help you choose the amp that’s perfect for you.
What Size Amp Should I Get?
The physical size of the amp is entirely up to you. If you’re looking for a small, discreet amp then our MTXAmp Sub Car Amp Terminator 300W 4 Channel Class A/B Full Range Amplifier will be ideal for you. Remember, your main focus needs to be the number of channels and amount of power it has, not the size of the amp. All of our amps are designed to fit into your car and give you a great look and an incredible surround sound music experience that you’ll love.
Where Do I Put My Car Amplifier?
The traditional place to store your amp in your car is in the boot of your car, but our solutions are flexible, meaning that you could put them between the seats or even behind your speakers on your parcel shelf. If you’re unsure of where to put your amp, contact us and we can give you some advice on where to place it so it’ll be safe and out of your way, meaning that you can carry on driving and listening to your favourite songs.
Should I Give My Amp Ventilation Space?
Yes- as car amplifiers have a tendency to get hot, you need to put them in a space that isn’t too confined. Because amps generate a lot of heat, it’s important that you don’t put them in a place where they can get too hot and potentially blow a fuse, or even worse, cause a fire. We’d recommend leaving around 5 inches of ventilation space around each side of your amp, so that the amp can get air and won’t overheat. This will allow you to play all of your favourite songs safely and enjoy the benefits of this quality audio
