What Is Alloy Cleaner?
Alloy cleaner is a special type of cleaner that is designed to be used to clean the alloys (metal bits) on your car wheels. The other cleaning products that are designed for cars can be used to remove the surface dirt on your alloys, but they aren’t suitable for the same thorough cleaning that alloy cleaner allows for. There are also plenty of homemade DIY alternatives to alloy cleaner, but none can do the same job that the genuine product can.
How To Use Alloy Cleaner
Alloy cleaner should be applied to your wheels after you have given them an initial clean with a hose or pressure washer to remove as much of the loose dirt from the surface as possible. You might also want to consider using snow foam to prewash your car. Snow foam will soften and break down the dirt and debris on your wheels, making it easier to remove later.
Once you have given your wheels an initial clean, you can then apply your alloy cleaner. Make sure to follow the instructions on the product and to leave it on the wheels for the amount of time directed. After that time has elapsed, you can then give your wheels a final clean to remove the cleaner and any residual dirt.
Keeping Wheels Clean
Lots of drivers follow up their alloy cleaning with a layer of wheel wax. Wheel wax gives alloys an extra layer of shine and protection. With a layer of wheel wax, dirt and debris won’t be able to get to the actual surface of your alloys.
It is a good idea to regularly clean your car, both inside and out. The wheels are always going to be one of the most difficult areas to clean but a good ally cleaner makes it much easier.
